DESCRIPTION:Struthers Auditorium 110 Business Building | State College PA\nAs part of ongoing efforts at the Penn State Smeal College of Business to explore issues of sustainability, the college will host “The Changing Climate of Business: Scientific and Market-Based Perspectives on Climate Change” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in Struthers Auditorium, 110 Business Building.\nThe moderated discussion, which is free and open to the public, is being co-sponsored by Beta Alpha Psi, the Smeal Accounting Society, and the Smeal Sustainability Initiative. Visit http://php.smeal.psu.edu/psep/ccb/ to register.\n“The Changing Climate of Business” will feature IBM’s Wayne S. Balta, vice president of corporate environmental affairs and product safety, and Penn State’s Michael E. Mann, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science and one of the world’s foremost authorities on climate change.\nBalta has global responsibility for environmental affairs, energy efficiency, and toxicology and chemical management, as well as product safety and related hardware compliance functions at IBM. He joined the company in 1984.\nMann has joint appointments in the Department of Geosciences and the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute. He is also director of the Penn State Earth System Science Center.\nAbout Sustainability at Smeal\nThe Smeal College of Business is committed to sustainability in education, research, and practice. In 2013, the college’s Sustainability Strategic Plan was developed by a college task force and authorized by the dean. Sustainability is infused into courses across the Smeal curriculum, including a two-piece sequence for undergraduates and a concentration in the Penn State Smeal MBA Program. The college also supports faculty research efforts related to business and sustainability, promotes outreach efforts through educational units and research centers, and leads by example in promoting sustainable behavior among current faculty, staff, and students.\n
