Mann about the forces waging war on science—and what we can do about it! #ScienceUnderSiege!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate and time\n\n\n\n \n\nFriday, September 12 · 7 – 8pm EDT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister for the event here! One common obstacle cuts across them all: the rising tide of anti-science denial, disinformation, and delay.\nAt this Climate Action Party, we’ll learn directly from one of the world’s most acclaimed climate scientists, Dr. Michael E. Mann, about what’s fueling today’s war on science—and how we can fight back.\nIn conversation with Tim Guinee, President of Climate Action Now, Dr. Mann will share powerful insights from his newest book, Science Under Siege: How to Fight the Five Most Powerful Forces that Threaten Our World (co-authored with Peter J. Hotez).\nWe’ll explore the five forces sabotaging scientific progress—plutocrats, pros, petrostates, phonies, and the press—and uncover how they’re blocking urgent action on climate and public health. And, this won’t be just another conversation about problems. Together, we’ll take real-time action using free Climate Action Now tools to challenge disinformation, call for accountability, and protect science.\nJoin us to uncover the powerful interests undermining science—and then take action to protect our futures!\n\nAbout Our Expert Speaker\nDr. Michael E. Mann is Presidential Distinguished Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania and director of the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability, and the Media. A co-founder of RealClimate.org and a leading voice on climate for over two decades, Dr. Mann was a lead author of the IPCC’s Third Assessment Report and has authored five books including The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars and The New Climate War. His scientific contributions and public engagement have earned him numerous prestigious awards and recognition from Scientific American, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Nobel Peace Prize-winning IPCC.\n \nAbout Our Moderator\nTim Guinee is President of Climate Action Now. He serves as the Legislative Director at the pleasure of the Climate Reality New York State Chapters Coalition. He serves on the boards of the Broadway Green Alliance, The Climate Action Fund and The Ashokan Center, as well as on the advisory boards of the Center for Earth Ethics and Riverkeeper, and on the executive committee of the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter. He is the founder of the Climate Actors. He was presented with the prestigious Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award for his work on the climate crisis by former Vice-President Al Gore.\n \nAbout Our Sponsors\nNRDC combines the power of more than 3 million members and online activists with the expertise of some 700 scientists, lawyers, and other environmental specialists to confront the climate crisis, protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places, and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.\nThe New York State Coalition of Climate Reality Chapters connects Climate Reality members across New York for joint action and friendship. In addition to coordinating an annual retreat, the coalition has several working groups which leverage their scale at the state level.\nThe Broadway Green Alliance is an industry-wide initiative that educates, motivates, and inspires the entire theatre community and its patrons to implement environmentally friendlier practices on Broadway and beyond.\nThe Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter works to protect New York’s air, water, communities, and remaining wild places.\nRiverkeeper protects and restores the Hudson River from source to sea and safeguards drinking water supplies, through advocacy rooted in community partnerships, science and law.‍\n‌‍‌‌‌\nAbout Our Climate Action Parties\nAn Action Party is an online event that packs valuable information and concrete action into a 60-minute venue.\nEach Action Party has an environment-related topic and features guests who are experts in that topic. We begin with a 10 minute presentation, followed by a panel discussion. Participants are invited to share questions for the panelists. Throughout the event, optional action-taking with the Climate Action Now app is available. The actions have been prepared in advance to help participants take the most impactful action in the shortest period of time. The party’s moderator sets a goal for the number of actions to be taken and shows participants their progress towards that goal in real time with an online, automated goal tracker.\nAction Parties are free and open to all who seek a more just and sustainable world, but we welcome donations to help us continue our mission of creating a just and liveable planet for all.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Get the Climate Action Now App\nIf you want to participate in the action-taking segment, you can get the free Climate Action Now app by scanning the QR code below with your phone’s camera, or by searching for “Climate Action Now” in your app store and downloading it to your phone. The app is currently available to users in the United States only.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
