SUMMARY:Author Talk: Science Under Siege (MIT Museum, Cambridge, MA)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a timely and compelling book event with Science Under Siege authors Michael E. Mann and Peter J. Hotez, as they discuss how science is being challenged in today’s political and cultural landscape. Moderated by Boston Globe reporter Anna Kuchment.\n\nFrom pandemics to the climate crisis, humanity faces tougher challenges than ever. Whether it’s the health of our people or the health of our planet, we know we are on an unsustainable path. But our efforts to effectively tackle these existential crises are now hampered by a common threat: politically and ideologically motivated opposition to science.\nMann and Hotez have spent the last twenty years on the front lines of the battle to convey accurate, reliable, and trustworthy information about science in the face of determined and nihilistic opposition.\nIn this powerful manifesto, they reveal the five main forces threatening science: plutocrats, pros, petrostates, phonies, and the press. It is a call to arms and a road map for dismantling the forces of anti-science. Armed with the information in this book, we can be empowered to promote scientific truths, shine light on channels of dark money, dismantle the corporations poisoning the planet, and ultimately avert disaster.\nCopies of Science Under Siege will be available for purchase and signing after the talk, courtesy of the MIT Press Bookstore.\nWe have a limited number of free tickets available for full-time students with ID. Please reach out to museumregadmin@mit.edu.\nApril 2, 2026\n6:00 – 7:30pm\n$5\n\nTo learn more about the event or to purchase tickets, please follow this link ( https://mitmuseum.mit.edu/programs/author-talk-science-under-siege-how-to-fight-the-five-most-powerful-forces-that-threaten-our-world ).\n
