2024 global temperature record is consistent with model-predicted warming

May 12, 2026

Current and former Mann Research Group members, including Michael E. Mann, Xueki Li, and Shannon A. Christiansen, along with collaborators Byron A. Steinman and Alejandro Fernandez, showed that the recent global surface temperature spike is entirely consistent with expectations from the combined effects of model-predicted long-term warming and routine natural climate variability. They found that without human-caused global warming, the record warmth from 2024 would have been highly unlikely.
