Megan Herbert and Dr. Michael E. Mann are life-long communicators, as a writer and illustrator and scientists. They are also both parents who wish to share the same purpose: to communicate about climate change to children in a way that educates and empowers them to make a real difference.

As parents, Megan Herbert and Dr. Mann wanted to create a book that would talk to kids about what’s happening to our planet, but not scare them senseless at bedtime. Or bore them into apathy by reading them dry academic material. Or give them reason to be angry, without also giving them the tools to manage their strong emotions. Most importantly they wanted to inspire children to do something about climate change. They were also cautious to avoid adding to the problem. And so, carbon neutrality became a central goal for this project. This book will be printed on 100% recycled materials, using soy inks, in a printing facility run on renewable energy, with no waste going to landfill, and carbon offset shipping. Every effort is being made at every stage of production and fulfillment to create a book that not only has a strong message, but that lives and breathes it.
The story is about a little girl who comes face to face with an enormous challenge, feels all kinds of frustration as she tries to overcome it, and then channels those strong emotions into action, rallying all those around her to do the same.Following this engaging, relatable tale, comes the explanation of the science of climate change in language that children can understand, telling the stories of the climate refugees that appear in the story, and how all their lives are interconnected. An Action Plan then outlines simple and positive steps every person can take to make a real difference and to become the heroes of their own stories.
This book is created by professionals in their field. The storytelling is exciting and well-structured.
