Science Under Siege by Professor Michael E. Mann (University of Southampton, UK)

Join us for a lecture about the forces behind the modern anti-science movement.

This lecture will examine the forces behind the modern anti-science movement, known as the six ‘P’s: plutocrats, pros, politicians, polluters, petrostates, posers, pretenders, propagandists, and the press. Drawing on experiences in climate change and COVID-19 vaccine misinformation, Professor Mann will identify financial backers and offer a roadmap for countering anti-science narratives. A warning and a call to arms, this talk will highlight the urgency and agency needed to address this growing threat.

Michael is the Presidential Distinguished Professor of Earth & Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania and an award-winning climate scientist and expert on climate change. His work has played a crucial role in shaping public discourse and climate change policy. He is part of the IPCC team that won the Nobel Peace Prize and has been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society. Selected by Scientific American as one of the 50 leading visionaries in science and technology.
